The global unit of India’s Reliance Communications will more than double its data centre operations over the next 18 months, in a bid to compete with world leaders such as ATandT and BT , its CEO said on Wednesday.
Reliance Globalcom is planning to add 1 million square feet of new data centre space to complement its existing 600,000 square feet in India and 250,000 square feet outside the country, CEO Punit Garg told Reuters in an interview in Hong Kong.

Anil Ambani-led Reliance Communications Wednesday announced its partnership with software major Microsoft for offering Windows Mobile solutions on its wireless networks.
According to the agreement, Microsoft will offer Windows Mobile solutions to RCom customers, including push email support, chat, photo-sharing, content back-up and other applications, RCom said in a statement.
RCom will introduce a special data plan offering data download of 200MB for Rs 95 per month to its customers using Windows Mobile phones, it added.
Reliance Data Center, a part of Reliance Communications (RCom), has launched a hosted infrastructure service based on the Microsoft platform for enterprises and small and medium businesses (SMBs).
The new service, ‘Reliance Cloud Computing Services’, will initially be offered from their Mumbai data centers.
To begin with RCom will provide virtual hosting services and has created service schemes depending on computing resource requirements namely, Virtual Hosting Basic, Value, Advanced and Enterprise. The pricing for these have not being disclosed, but is expected to be in the range of Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 25,000.
