Mobile service provider Reliance Communications (RCom) plans to launch its much-awaited Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) service in Delhi and Mumbai in the next three months, a top company official said.
We plan to start our proposed IPTV service initially in Delhi and Mumbai in the next three months. In the second phase, we also have plans to introduce it in six other cities, RCom’s chief executive officer (DTH and IPTV) Sanjay Behl said.

Advertisers may have to pay 10-15 per cent extra for using the direct-to-home (DTH) platform by early next year. Five of the six DTH players have begun measuring the viewing habits of their 17 million-plus subscribers and plan to monetise it by offering the information to advertisers for target-advertising.
This means, by early next year, DTH operators like Dish TV or Tata Sky will be able to know exactly how much time their subscribers spent on any particular channel or interactive services on a particular day, an information that will develop interest among companies like car makers, computer manufacturers, FMCG or banking and insurance companies.

Being sharp, articulate, having a fair epidermis, and at 6 feet plus his personality has nothing remotely dwarfish about it.
Behl, an MBA in marketing from Sydenham College (Mumbai), passed out in 1990 as an engineer from Institute of Technology, Benaras Hindu University (ITBH) to join Ranbaxy as production supervisor for antibiotics on the shop floor, before moving to Mumbai for a management degree.

Reliance Big TV Ltd, the promoter of Big TV direct-to-home (DTH) services of Anil Ambanis Reliance Communications, is in final talks with private equity (PE) firms – Carlyle Group and Providence Equity – to sell a minority stake and raise capital.
Deutsche Bank has the mandate to facilitate the deal for the DTH service provider, according to sources, who add that Big TV is looking to divest about 20 per cent stake in tranches, of which 10 per cent will be sold now for around $ 50-60 million.

Direct-to-home (DTH) television service provider Big TV Ltd, a unit of the Reliance-Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group, is setting out on a content acquisition spree to win an edge over rival such as Dish TV India Ltd, Tata Sky Ltd, Airtel DTH and Sun Direct DTH Service.
Big TV, which was launched in August, is in talks with a raft of general entertainment channels such as Colors, Star Plus, Sony and Zee TV to acquire broadcast rights for some of their popular television shows.
Sanjay Behl, chief executive of Big TV, told Mint that some TV shows will be beamed on its pay-per-view service, especially on weekends. He did not divulge the investment earmarked for content acquisition.

BIG TV, the direct-to-home (DTH) satellite TV service provider of the Reliance-Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group, is offering stadium-like cricket viewing experience to its customers along with interactive options like multi-lingual audio and different camera views.
The service called iCricket will enable viewers to even highlight all sixes, fours and fall of wickets at the click of a button.
“iCricket is part of our effort to deliver the best to our subscribers, especially at the time of T20 world cup,” BIG TV chief executive Sanjay Behl said in a statement Monday.

Actor Nandita Das’ directorial debut Firaaq will be premiered on television Friday thanks to direct-to-home (DTH) service provider Reliance Big TV Ltd.
The service provider, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Anil Ambani-owned Reliance Communications Ltd, is offering the movie to over 1.5 million subscribers on its pay-per-view (PPV) channel at a price of Rs.50 as part of its New Film Premiere showcase.

In a bid to introduce global channels, Reliance Big TV, the direct-to-home (DTH) arm of the Reliance ADA group, is set to ink deals with Fox, Warner Brothers and Korean Broadcasting. The company is also said to be in advanced stages of discussion with global DTH operators and some private equity investors to hive off 49% stake for Rs 8,000 crore ($1.6 billion).
The discussions with global entertainment giants form part of the DTH operator’s overall strategy to increase its channel bouquet from the current 200 to 400 channels as announced by ADAG chairman Anil Ambani in September 2008.
