Reliance Energy Union leader murdered in public

Mumbai, November 9 : A union leader in Reliance Energy Ltd was murdered in broad daylight on Sunday, a day ahead of a scheduled court verdict in a case concerning 43 contract employees.

Shantaram Kanade (48) was attacked by 10-12 unidentified men and stabbed 25 times on the threshold of the office of his residential society in Evershine Millennium Paradise in Thakur Village Kandivili (East). He was the secretary of the society.

Portfolio Manager, PN Vijay told CNBC-TV18, “Nothing very fantastic in the mid-cap space because power is now just starting to get into people’s antennas. In the power utilities, I would rather go in for Reliance Infra, the old BSES, because I think the earnings visibility is very strong there and the EPC business appears to be becoming larger and larger share of the Reliance Infra cake. It has fallen so much just like all the other Reliance shares. So I would bet on a horse like that.”

Anil Ambani plans to increase stake in Reliance Infra

Anil Dhirubhai Ambani is looking to increase his stake in Reliance Infrastructure by about 5 per cent through the creeping acquisition route in a bid to increase the promoters’ holding above 50 per cent.

The promoters and promoter group companies, which are controlled by the junior Ambani, are expected to buy R-Infra shares in this financial year from the open market, where prices are reeling under global economic slowdown, said sources close to the company.

Anil Kapoor - CEO of Big TV quits

The CEO of Big TV, R-ADAG’s direct-to-home venture, Arun Kapoor, has put in his papers just four monthsarunkapoorbigtv after joining the DTH company. He was poached from Dish TV where he was the CEO since 2006. His resignation has surprised the DTH industry as Big TV was launched just two months ago and Mr Kapoor had announced long-term plans for the company.

The R-ADAG official spokesperson confirmed the development and said that Mr Kapoor has already been relieved of his duties. The spokesperson refused to give out reasons for the move. Mr Kapoor could not be contacted.

Not a great festive season for Reliance Retail

Reliance Rosa Power Phase-I to complete by 2009
