Reliance Autozone plans private labels : Arun Dey
Reliance Autozone, an automotive specialty format of Reliance Retail Limited, is planning to introduce its private labels in select categories once it builds some kind of a critical mass in the next one-and-a-half to two years, said Reliance Retail’s chief executive officer (automotive services), Arun Dey.
The plan is still in the initial stage and we are in the process of identifying the products and manufacturing companies. Our idea is to introduce private labels, especially utility items, during the next financial year when we will be adding another 10-15 stores to our chain, Dey told Business Standard.
A relatively new entrant in the domestic auto accessory retail market, pegged at Rs 4,200 crore of which the organised sector accounts for 20 per cent, Reliance Autozone currently has six stores in the country – one each at Gurgaon, Jaipur, Ghaziabad, Jamnagar, Mumbai and Hyderabad.

Organised retail was supposed to make life easier and better for the consumer. But just a few years since the creation of this segment, that dream is increasingly looking like a pipe dream.
I decide to visit the Punjabi Bagh outlet of Reliance Fresh in New Delhi at about 10.30 on a Thursday morning. The first obstacle to entering the store are the nine steep steps that one needs to negotiate. The steps seem to be a test of fitness and anyone with even the slightest handicap would struggle to reach the doors to this temple of modern consumerism.

Reliance Digital, Trends to open at Korum mall, Thane in December
Just a month into its opening, the Korum Mall in Thane is averaging footfalls of about 10,000 on weekdays and 17,000 on weekends. On the five anchors in the shopping centre, two — Star Bazaar and Westside — are currently operational with 65,000 square feet and 25,000 square feet of space respectively. Of the three remaning anchor tenants, Reliance Digital and Reliance Trends — occupying 12,000 square feet and 28,000 square feet of space respectively — are scheduled to open in mid-December, while the fifth anchor, INOX, is scheduled to open a 40,000 square feet multiplex by end-January 2010.

Reliance Retail to re-develop West Bengal projects soon
Reliance Retail, part of Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries, is looking at reviving its West Bengal projects in a major way, a top official said here Saturday.
We are currently working on how best we can come back to the state in a major way. It’s all currently on the drawing board, Tarun Jhunjhunwala, president of Reliance Industries, told reporters.
The company has faced several political hurdles in its bid to sell farm produce in the state.

Reliance Mart fined Rs 1.1 lakh for poor services
Unfair trade practices and deficiency in services have landed supermarket chain Reliance Mart in trouble.
The Ranchi District Consumer Forum has slapped a fine of Rs 1.1 lakh on Reliance Mart. Ironically, the jolt comes from an advocate who was allegedly duped by the store leading to the case before the consumer forum.

Reliance Digital opens first store in Chennai,TN
Reliance digital, consumer durable and information technology speciality store of Reliance Retail, subsidiary of Reliance Industries, today opened their first store in Tamil Nadu.
The company has invested close to Rs three crore for setting up its 15000 sq ft store, the 16th in the country.
The company planned to open 14 more such stores in Tamil Nadu over the next two years, Reliancedigital President and Chief Executive Ajay Baijal said in a release.

Reliance Digital plans to launch its own brand
Reliance Digital, part of Reliance Retail Ltd, a subsidiary of Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL), plans to introduce its private label brand within six months.
Speaking to reporters at the launch of the first store of Reliance Digital in Tamil Nadu, Ajay Baijal, president and chief executive, said the private label will be introduced within six months to study the market and then the segment will be ramped up by next year. The private label of Reliance will include accessories, IT products, consumer electronics and home appliances. Baijal also mentioned that there are inventory risks and expenditure in the form of after-sales infrastructure for private labels. But there are also gaps in product specification and market price. Hence, there are ample opportunities to differentiate, he noted.
