Reliance Ent to give $200 mn to Spielberg’s Dreamworks

Anil ambani” width=”150″ height=”150″ />Reliance Entertainment, a unit of the Anil Ambani-led ADA Group, is expected to give USD 200 million to Hollywood director Steven Spielberg’s DreamWorks Studios, a deal which will extend a new financial lease of life to the struggling California-based film company.
Reliance Entertainment has “agreed in principle” to continue financing the film studio Spielberg founded. Under the arrangement, DreamWorks would make fewer movies in a year, down to about three from the six it had originally intended, reported the New York Times.

BIG Cinemas, Cinepolis in talks for alliance
The Mexico-headquartered Cinepolis, the world’s fifth largest multiplex operator with over 2,500 screens, is in talks with the Anil Ambani-promoted BIG Cinemas for a strategic alliance.
The alliance may entail buying a stake in some of BIG Cinemas’ screens.
BIG Cinemas is the exhibition arm of Reliance MediaWorks (RMW), which also has a presence in film services, including motion picture processing, studio facilities, film restoration, equipment rentals, visual effects, animation and post-production.

Reliance MediaWorks in expansion mode with South India focus
Reliance MediaWorks, the entertainment arm of the Anil Ambani-led industrial house, is expanding its domestic operations across films, TV commercials and broadcasting through strategic alliances and leveraging existing tie-ups.
The company is particularly looking at south India, where it has recently partnered with VenSat to expand its animation capabilities, as also to create a studio in Chennai, a statement issued Wednesday said.

Reliance DreamWorks films get 11 Oscar nominations
Three films produced by Reliance DreamWorks, a venture between industrialist Anil Ambani and Hollywood producer-director Steven Spielberg, have bagged as many as 11 Oscar nominations this year, it was announced Tuesday.
This is the first time movies produced by a company with such huge Indian holding has bagged such large nominations for one of the most prestigious cinema awards across the globe.

Reliance Broadcast, CBS JV to launch Punjabi TV channel
Big CBS, the joint venture between Anil Ambani owned Reliance Broadcast Network and US-based CBS Studios International, which runs three English language TV channels in India, is expanding in the regional space with the planned launch of a Punjabi TV channel.
The channel, Spark Punjabi, will be the joint venture’s fourth TV channel India, following the launch of Big CBS Prime, Big CBS Love and Big CBS Spark.
