Reliance is running misleading ad campaigns : ASCI

The Advertising Standards Council of India last week pulled up 15 major consumer goods and service companies for running misleading or otherwise improper ad campaigns between July and October this year.
The companies that include Reliance Communications, Idea Cellular, fast moving consumer goods maker Dabur, Elder Pharma, and coaching centre Career Launcher, have been asked to modify their ads after investigation by the ASCI’s consumer complaints council.
Reliance Communications was quick to act, suspending a television commercial, which failed to substantiate its claim that it is the fastest mobile broadband service in India, as it gave no comparative data of other mobile services. The company said it was making modifications in the commercial.

RComm in partnership with Univercell
Telecom service provider Reliance Communications on Friday said it will partner with mobile phone retailer Univercell to market wireless broadband service in Tamil Nadu.
Through this tie-up, Univercell would retail Reliance Netconnect Broadband Plus in all the 42 stores in Chennai, Reliance Communications region head (Tamil Nadu and Kerala) VG Somasekhar told reporters in the cuty.
Reliance Communications launched the “Netconnect Broadband” service in March 2009 across the country.

Syed Safawi as CEO of mobility biz at RCOM
Anil ambani Reliance Communications has just inducted Syed Safawi as president and CEO of its national mobility business. Mr Safawi, who till recently was executive director at Bharti Airtel, will be responsible for both the CDMA and GSM operations of Reliance Communications. As president of the wireless business, he will be reporting to Reliance Communications’ group managing director Satish Seth, a senior company executive told ET.

RCom looking for telecom infra projects in Kerala, Mumbai, Maha circles
Reliance Communications today said it has bagged contracts to develop telecom infrastructure in Kerala, Mumbai and Maharashtra circles.
Company sources said the firm would build infrastructure for mGovernance, which help give 24×7 provide real time police information, updates on land records and civil services through voice, GPRS, Bluetooth, SMS and 3G technologies. RCOM will team with local value added services (VAS) partners to implement the projects and connect various government departments on the mobile data platform.

Meet Hrithik Roshan, the brand ambassador of telecom operator Reliance Mobile, who in a television ad is seen playing the flute and enticing a pack of digitally created mice — the irritants — leap off a cliff, much like the fictional flautist.
The television commercial is inspired by the famous tale of the Pied Piper of Hamelin, said Sanjay Behl, head of branding and communications at Reliance Communications that owns Reliance Mobile.

Reliance Globalcom more into data centre operations
The global unit of India’s Reliance Communications will more than double its data centre operations over the next 18 months, in a bid to compete with world leaders such as ATandT and BT , its CEO said on Wednesday.
Reliance Globalcom is planning to add 1 million square feet of new data centre space to complement its existing 600,000 square feet in India and 250,000 square feet outside the country, CEO Punit Garg told Reuters in an interview in Hong Kong.

RCom in talks with Canadian firm to sign Rs 200-cr mobile mail deal
Reliance Communications is believed to be in advanced talks with Canadian firm Iseemedia Inc for mobile mail gateway agreement that will provide email facilities to low-end handsets.
The deal is estimated to be around Rs 200 crore, RCom sources said.
As part of this agreement, RCom will launch SMS-enabled Email solution for both GSM and CDMA customers, sources added.

RCOM: Handset Sale Revenues Was Included In Wireless Revenues
In the post-earnings conference call, Reliance Communications brass revealed the reason behind the variations in revenues it reported to the stock exchange BSE and Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI): revenue from sale of handsets was included in its wireless revenues.
The Indian Department of Telecommunication (DoT) had appointed a special audit task force to review financials of the telco, which was under suspicion of manipulating its accounts to the tune of Rs. 29.15 billion and evading licence fees to the tune of Rs. 3.16 billion. The task force reported no findings on the alleged inflation of revenue and RCOM clarified 2 weeks ago that the differences in revenues, brought into the limelight by analysts, were in fact reconciliations prepared and filed by the company.
