Reliance Communications quaterly result: beat estimates, profit up 18%

Reliance Communications Ltd., Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group company and India’s second-largest mobile-phone operator, reported second- quarter profit rose 18 percent, beating estimates, after adding a record number of customers.

Net income climbed to 15.3 billion rupees ($310 million) in the three months ended Sept. 30, from 13 billion rupees a year earlier, Mumbai-based Reliance said in a release today. Profit exceeded the 14.2 billion rupee median estimate of six analysts surveyed by Bloomberg. Sales rose 22 percent.

Big TV, direct-to-home arm of Reliance Communications (Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group company) on Thursday joined hands with LG Electronics offering its DTH service to LG TV buyers at Rs 700 for three months.

Under the tie up all those who purchase LG 29 inch TV buyers a three month DTH subscription for Rs 700 without paying any installation charges, the company said in a statement.

Reliance Infratel, an Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG) company, will not enter the capital markets anytime soon. The initial public offering (IPO) of the company will be deferred till the markets gain stability. “Markets are choppy at this point of time and all of you are aware of that, in the present conditions we do not expect an IPO for Reliance Infratel,” said the company’s chairman Anil Ambani at the annual general meeting (AGM) of Reliance Communications (RCom).

Reliance Communications is going to spend Rs 1,000-crore project to develop part of its 132 acre campus near Mumbai as a special economic zone.

The SEZ at the Dhirubhai Ambani Knowledge City in Navi Mumbai will focus on IT and IT-enabled services, the company chairman, Mr Anil Ambani, told shareholders at the fourth annual general meeting here on Tuesday.
