The Anil Ambani group has forayed into animation education by launching the Big Animation Infotainment and Media School or Big Aims, a training institute in Pune.
â€œBig Aims is unique and a first-of-its kind,â€ said Ashish Kulkarni, chief executive of Big Animation, the group company that launched the project and made the animated TV series â€œLittle Krishnaâ€.
â€œIt will be a big leap for freshers, amateurs and aspirants to migrate to a much higher level of training practised by major Hollywood studios like Dreamworks,â€ Kulkarni told IANS over phone from Mumbai.
â€œWe will train them and groom them to help learn the basics and principles of storytelling in animation and feature films,â€ he added.

The Supreme Court has denied Anil Ambani group firm Utility Energy Tech Engineers Pvt Ltd permission to encash bank guarantees provided by its subcontractor Maytas Infrastructure after the latter defaulted on a highway expansion project.
Maytas Infrastructure had produced performance guarantees from ICICI Bank for the highway project in Tamil Nadu and the Bombay high court, in its order dated 15 May, had asked the bank to deposit Rs20 crore it underwrote by 18 June.
Later, on 21 May, the high court gave ICICI Bank time till 18 June to deposit the performance guarantee amount.
Utility Energytech had, in its appeal, sought direct payment of the amount to the beneficiary under the contract rather than depositing the money with the court.

A local court today remanded Air Works employee Uday Warikar to police custody till Sunday and another employee Palraj Thevar to judicial custody till May 17 in the Anil Ambani helicopter sabotage case.
Warikar and Thevar, both helpers of Air Works which looked after the maintenance of Ambani&aposs helicopter, were arrested on May 4 for allegedly planting pebbles in the gearbox cap of the helicopter.
According to the Mumbai crime branch, Warikar and Thevar allegedly planted seven pebbles in the gearbox cap and had done it due to a dispute between the Air Works management and the 52 union members.

Home video rental company BIGFlix, a subsidiary of the Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG), is planning to channelise over 50 percent of its total investment on expansion in tier-two cities in the second quarter this fiscal.
In 2008, BIGFlix had announced it would invest Rs.400 crore (Rs.4 billion) over three years.
â€œWe are looking at investing 50-55 percent of our total investment in building our online business for smaller cities and are looking at expanding it to 50-100 cities apart from the current cities we service now,â€ company chief operating officer Kamal Gianchandani told IANS over phone from Mumbai.

A Graduate with History Honours from Lucknow University and with a degree in Advertising and Sales from Symbiosis, Singhâ€™s first assignment was with Hinduja Cable Network. Mumbai (PTI) Miffed by official claims that it had smuggled in a yacht, Anil Ambani group firm Reliance Transport and Travel on Friday said the vessel was a foreign ship that has permit to sail to India and the question of paying duties does not arise.
Since the yacht had not been imported or registered in India, the company argued that it need not pay duties.
“All allegations made by the customs are denied,” Reliance said in its reply to the Customs Department’s affidavit in the Bombay High Court that is hearing a petition by Ammolite Holdings, another ADAG company, challenging the seizure of the yacht.

Reliance Anil Ambani Group on Thursday refuted allegations levelled by Mumbai Customs that the corporate house had “smuggled” a luxurious yacht into Indian waters.
“The yacht was duly and validly brought into Indian waters after the necessary approvals granted by the Customs department,” a group spokesperson told PTI on phone.
The Mumbai Customs had levelled the allegation in an affidavit filed in Mumbai High Court.

In a bid to introduce global channels, Reliance Big TV, the direct-to-home (DTH) arm of the Reliance ADA group, is set to ink deals with Fox, Warner Brothers and Korean Broadcasting. The company is also said to be in advanced stages of discussion with global DTH operators and some private equity investors to hive off 49% stake for Rs 8,000 crore ($1.6 billion).
The discussions with global entertainment giants form part of the DTH operator’s overall strategy to increase its channel bouquet from the current 200 to 400 channels as announced by ADAG chairman Anil Ambani in September 2008.

The Bombay High Court on Wednesday adjourned the hearing of petition challenging seizure of a yacht belonging to Ammolite Holdings, an associate company of Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group.
ADAG’s lawyer, senior advocate Aspi Chenoy, sought time for filing reply to customs’ affidavit.
The yacht, reportedly a gift by ADAG head Anil Ambani to his wife, was purchased by Ammolite Holdings, an associate of ADAG, last October. It has been chartered by Reliance Transport and Travels Ltd, another ADAG company.
In February, customs seized it for alleged duty evasion.

The GMR group-led consortium that manages New Delhiâ€™s Indira Gandhi International Airport has approached the civil aviation ministry seeking more time to pay Rs 448 crore to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) for constructing a metro rail corridor linking airport terminals to the city centre.
The group had agreed to pay 10% of the cost of building the 23-km metro rail link.
Delhi International Airport (DIAL) expects a significant shortfall in realisation from the proposed hospitality project and wants the payment to be rescheduled, said an official, requesting anonymity.
