Dhirubhai Institute planning a reseach facility in West Bengal
Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology is planning a IT education and research facility at Haringhata in West Bengal in line with a similar institute set up by the Ambani Group at Ahmedabad in Gujarat.
A Bill in this regard was passed in the State Assembly today. Introducing the Bill, State Higher Education Minister Sudarshan Raychoudhuri said the Institute would create centres of excellence for imparting state-of-the-art education, training and research in the fields of information and communication technology.

Anil Kapoor - CEO of Big TV quits
The CEO of Big TV, R-ADAG’s direct-to-home venture, Arun Kapoor, has put in his papers just four months
after joining the DTH company. He was poached from Dish TV where he was the CEO since 2006. His resignation has surprised the DTH industry as Big TV was launched just two months ago and Mr Kapoor had announced long-term plans for the company.
The R-ADAG official spokesperson confirmed the development and said that Mr Kapoor has already been relieved of his duties. The spokesperson refused to give out reasons for the move. Mr Kapoor could not be contacted.
Anil Ambani looks for stake in Gopinath’s Deccan Cargo
Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG) private equity arm, Reliance Equity Advisors, is holding talks to invest
over $50 million (Rs 250 crore) in Gopinath’s new venture — Deccan Cargo — in return for a significant minority stake in the start-up airline, sources said.
Gopinath’s new dream of linking India’s distant hinterlands to the mainstream markets is expected to take off in January next year with fleet of Airbus aircrafts.
Others in the fray to pick up a slice of Deccan Cargo include US venture capital major New Enterprise Associates (NEA) and Intel Capital. Sources said the investment bank with fund-raising mandate from Gopinath has approached 3-4 suitors, including ADAG, and will probably narrow down to a potential suitor within two weeks.

Anil Ambani Launches $2-Billion Private Equity Fund
Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG) is hitting the private equity road braving the market turmoil. The group is promoting a $2-billion yet-to-be named fund as a standalone entity, and not as part of Reliance Capital, sources said.
The group has put in place a fund team that is already chasing deals of at least $50-75 million in size. The general purpose fund has already raised over $500 million with Anil Ambani as anchor limited partner, sources added. Mr Ambani’s infusion is believed to have come from his personal holding companies - Batista and AAA.
