Reliance Retail to bring in Toys ‘R’ Us in India

The country’s largest private corporation is out to win over the little ones, it seems. Within months of opening the country’s first Hamleys toy store, Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Retail is set to bring in world’s leading toy retailer Toys”R”Us to India.

The two companies are close to signing a joint-venture agreement to open Toys”R”Us stores in India, a senior official close to the development said.

Reliance had ensured 20 years ago that the brand Vimal becomes the brand of the nation. RIL nominated for Platts Global Energy Awards

Seven energy companies from India, including Reliance Industries, have been chosen as finalists in the Platts Global Energy Awards, an annual program recognising exemplary industry leadership.

The seven companies are Reliance Industries, HPCL, Coal India, Cairn India, North Delhi Power Limited, Uhde India and GAIL India , a press release issued here today stated.

North Delhi Power Limited has been nominated in two categories–Power Company of the Year and Leading Technologies–Commercial, it said.

Consumers upbeat on Reliance Trends

Reliance Trends, the apparel, luggage and accessories specialty format of Reliance Retail plans to expand its current base across the country to 155 stores by 2012 across 90 cities. It prides itself on the fact that it’s probably the only format retailer that did not close down a single store during the slowdown. Reliance Retail operates two types of stores, value and specialty. An example of a value store is Reliance Fresh and for specialty it’s Reliance Trends.

Reliance Infra power bills unlikely to rise

The 28 lakh suburban power consumers, who get their supply from Reliance Infrastructure (RInfra), are unlikely to have to pay more for electricity as the state Cabinet on Wednesday agreed in principle to once again stall its plan to hike tariff by 7%. The state government has the power to invoke

section 108 of the Electricity Act, 2003, to stay a tariff revision. The Congress government had used it last year too to stall a RInfra tariff hike.

On Wednesday, the Cabinet met after completing the day’s agenda, prompted by protests from the ruling Congress and Opposition parties. While the Congress and Shiv Sena activists had protested at RInfra’s office on Tuesday, the BJP had led an agitation on Wednesday.

Reliance Life forays into health insurance business

Reliance Life Insurance, part of the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group company Reliance Capital , Thursday forayed into health insurance , launching a family floater plan, Reliance Life Care for You Plan.

We are targeting to become the third largest player in health cover segment within three years, Malay Ghosh, Reliance Life Insurance president and executive director, told reporters here.

The company this year is targeting to cover 500,000 lives and first year premium income of Rs 150 crore. In three years, it expects to mop up Rs.1,000 crore by covering 1.5 million lives and Rs 2,000 crore in the fifth year by covering 5 million lives, said Ghosh.
