BIG TV come up with 60 new TV channels

Reliance BIG TV, the DTH arm of Reliance Communications, is planning to introduce 60 more channels including its own entertainment channels in the next three months, a top company official said.

Presently, BIG TV broadcasts 236 channels. We are planning to introduce two new transponders which will enable us to broadcast another 60 channels which include our own HD movie and entertainment channels in the next three months, Reliance Communications’ chief executive officer (DTH and IPTV), Sanjay Behl, said.

He was speaking after announcing its new product of High Definition (HD) and Digital Video Recorder (DVR) service.

Reliance launches unlimited local, STD call schemes

Spiking up competition in the CDMA mobile telephony space, Reliance Communications today said that it will offer unlimited talktime to its subscribers for minimal one-time monthly charges.

Moving away from conventional tariff metering plans, RCom said that it will offer customers with unlimited local calls at a monthly fixed charge of Rs 299, and unlimited STD calls at a fixed charge of Rs 599.

The schemes are applicable only for CDMA users. Under the new Simply Unlimited CDMA Offer, RCom will launch two unique calling packs, one for local calls and the other for STD ones.

Dhirubhai Ambani International school starts second school in Mumbai

When two international boards first invited Indian schools to join them, even optimists had agreed with the sceptics that such systems would only cater to a select few in society’s upper crust.

However, the need for international schooling appears to be spreading even beyond tony areas. Mumbai, which has the highest number of international institutes in the country—76—is witnessing a fresh trend, that of organisations setting up a second international school. At least one expert put this down to Indian families becoming more globally mobile.

A billion dollar question: Is the famous Ambani feud nearing its end?

Shares of Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries jumped 2.3% Friday. Those of Reliance Natural Resources, owned by brother Anil Ambani, slid 23%. The reason: Investors interpreted an Indian Supreme Court decision in Reliance Industries‘ favor after a five-year court tussle.

At the heart of the feud is a contract between Mukesh and Anil in which Reliance Industries agreed to sell natural gas to Reliance Natural Resources at $2.34 a million British thermal units, 44% less than the government-recommended price of $4.20 per mbtu.

Reliance Communications to launch IPTV service in Delhi and Mumbai

Mobile service provider Reliance Communications (RCom) plans to launch its much-awaited Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) service in Delhi and Mumbai in the next three months, a top company official said.

We plan to start our proposed IPTV service initially in Delhi and Mumbai in the next three months. In the second phase, we also have plans to introduce it in six other cities, RCom’s chief executive officer (DTH and IPTV) Sanjay Behl said.

RIL shuts out VGO unit for about a month

Reliance Industries Ltd has shut a 100,000 barrels per day (bpd) vacuum gas oil (VGO) hydrotreater for about a month at the weekend to change the catalyst, a trade source said on Monday.

Reliance Industries, headed by billionaire Mukesh Ambani, operates the world’s biggest refining complex at Jamnagar in the western Indian state of Gujarat, with capacity to process 1.24 million bpd of crude. The VGO hydrotreater is one of two such units of the same capacity at Reliance’s 660,000 bpd refinery at Jamnagar. The shutdown process started on Friday evening and the unit was fully shut on Saturday. It will remain shut for about 25 days, the trade source, who is familiar with Reliance’s refining complex, said.

Reliance wants tech partner in for the Worli-Haji Ali Sea Link

Reliance Infrastructure Ltd wants to know if it can change the expression technical partner in the contract for the Worli-Haji Ali Sea Link. Hyundai Engineering is RInfra’s technical partner in the consortium that got the contract two months ago.

RInfra has requested the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) if it can change the expression as mentioned in the contract, apparently so that another partner can be included if needed.

ADAG stocks go up, RNRL feels the heat

With Reliance-Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG) group officials launching damage controlling measures, stocks of all group companies, except for Reliance Natural Resources, rose on Monday as the market scaled 591 points.

Reliance Infrastructure was the highest gainer on the BSE, which went up by 8.48% to Rs 1,062. However, the court’s verdict prompted several analysts to again rate the RNRL stock as the company will be getting gas at a higher price from Reliance Industries, owned by Anil’s brother, Mukesh. On Monday, RNRL’s stock was down 4.92 % and it closed at Rs 50 on the BSE.
