Tina Ambanis Harmony Art Show goes miniature

The annual Harmony Art Foundation’s art show goes miniature, literally. For the very first time, the annual show put up by Tina Ambani will showcase a gamut of India’s miniature art by artists from Himachal Pradesh, Jaipur, Udaipur, Nathdwara, Bikaner, Karnataka and also Mumbai.

Also, the show that opens on Saturday at the Coomarswami Hall in the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya is perhaps one of the smallest Harmony Art Foundation shows comprising works of only 40 artists.

“It is a much smaller show. It was conceived out of the trauma of 26/11 and the economic meltdown. I thought it was a good idea to do this show than to do a big contemporary show because people are not in a great mood to enjoy and appreciate that. The mood is down,” says Tina, adding that it will be inaugurated by Jaya Bachchan. “I thought that through our traditional art we could get people to revisit our heritage, culture and tradition and revive interest in that.”

Does Tina herself like to paint? “I can’t even draw a straight line,” she laughs. And just like their mom, even Tina’s sons Anmol and Anshul enjoy art. “I have been doing this show for 14 to 15 years and since the time they have been babies, they have attended all my art shows and always wondered when did mom paint so many paintings? We have never seen her paint!” she smiles. “Of course that was till they grew up and understood that I just put the show together.”

Tina continues, “There have been times when both my sons have told me that they really like a particular art work, and if they could keep the works in their room. Because of the continuous exposure to the art world through me, I am hoping that it will eventually turn into art appreciation, and maybe be a passion for them. But that is something they will have to learn on their own.”

And what about husband Anil Ambani? Does he support Tina in her art endeavours? “My husband is extremely supportive of any endeavour I undertake. He is always there to back me, support me and broaden my horizon. He makes me look beyond what I believe or what I perceive myself capable of.”
