Retail is a misnomer. Till now, we have yet to meet some people who declare that they do all their shopping from a retail chain in India.
That has not happened yet and therefore, we can safely declare the retail industry in India a total failure . The customer simply does not depend on our retail chains. He is still heavily dependent on the mom and pop stores who deliver on phone call. The usual ministrations about offering variety and a better atmosphere to shop does not go down well with middle class shoppers who are out to pinch pennies from their monthly budgets.

Reliance Life Sciences plans to launched three biosimilars next year
Reliance Life Sciences, which launched three biosimilars, or reverse-engineered versions of biotech drugs last year, will launch four more such drugs by next year.
Clinical studies are on for these drugs, which belong to the oncology and cardiology segment. “We are working on biosimilar products which most other competitors are not following,” said KV Subramaniam, president, Reliance Life Science.

Power companies may be the next to get KG basin gas
Reliance Industries (RIL) is close to signing deals to sell gas produced at the Krishna Godavari (KG) basin to more than half a dozen power projects including Dabhol, a power ministry official said.
We have given a list of power projects that are stranded due to non-availability of gas to the petroleum ministry. We now expect RIL to sign gas sale and purchase agreements (GSPA) with these companies next month, said the official on condition of anonymity.
RIL is expected to start gas production at KG basin in a day or two. To start with, the company is expected to produce 10 million standard cubic metre of gas per day (mmscmd). The production will be ramped up in a phased manner to reach its full capacity of 80 mmscmd by the end of 2009.

Ambani’s technology Institute in Kolkatta getting delayed due to govt red-tapism
Kolkata Stung by long delay by the state government in handing over land for the proposed Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology at Kalyani, Anil Ambani-led Reliance Communications has said its “frustration level is soaring” after three years of signing a memorandum of understanding for the project.
A Reliance official, who met senior state officials today over the issue, said unless the promised 50-acre plot was handed over to them by April 15, the proposed institute in Nadia district, which is to be modeled on the lines of an institute of the company at Gandhinagar, would be delayed by another year.

Reliance ADAG plans to expand power distribution business
Reliance Infrastructure, a part of the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG) company has said that it plans to bid for more power distribution business in Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and other states, claiming it helped the Delhi government save Rs 190 billion through improvement in power supply, reports Business Standard.

ADAG concludes most of its contracts for the Delhi metro rail link
Reliance Infrastructure, an ADAG company, has finalised most of its contracts for the metro rail link between Delhi international airport and city centre.
The Delhi Airport Metro Express Pvt Ltd (DAMEPL) — a special purpose vehicle where Reliance Infrastructure has a 95 per cent equity stake and Spanish firm CAF owns the rest — has won the 30-year concession to design, build, finance, operate and maintain the 22.7 km rail link. The facility will be transferred back to DMRC at the end of the concession period.

RIL stops pumping Oil in KG field to add more wells
Reliance Industries Ltd. India’s most valuable company, shut its oil-producing field off the nation’s east coast to attach two more wells to increase output, a company official said.
Production was closed on March 22 and is expected to resume on April 20, said the official who didn’t want to be named because of company rules. Output will rise to 40,000 barrels a day once the MA field in the Krishna-Godavari basin begins production again, he said.

Reliance Industries to output KG Basin gas in next 48 hours
Reliance Industries Ltd is set to begin gas production from its deep-sea field off the country’s east coast in the next 24 to 48 hours, the Economic Times reported on Monday, without citing a source.
A company spokesman reached by Reuters declined to comment on the report.

Supreme Court puts stay on tariff ruling against Reliance Energy
The Supreme Court on Friday stayed the order of a tribunal asking Reliance Energy Ltd to refund additional electricity charges of at least Rs250 crore levied on Mumbai multiplexes and shopping malls.
A bench headed by justice B.N. Agrawal ordered that the money would not be refunded to the commercial consumers until the final disposal of the case.
Abhishek Manu Singhvi, appearing for Reliance, said that unless the order was stayed, pending adjudication of the case, the company would have to collect funds from regular consumers.

Reliance Life Sciences set for big gains from biofuel
India-based biotech researcher Reliance Life Sciences is planning to significantly grow its presence in the biofuel sector.
RLS announced plans to build crushing and extraction facilities to produce more than one lakh metric tons (100,000 metric tons, or 110,231 tons) of biofuels a year.
