Customers queue at Reliance stores to get free SIMs


Streets and shops are usually less chaotic on Sundays here in Mumbai, but not today. Reliance stores in the city witnessed long queues, and the reason was it was giving away free GSM SIM cards.

Reliance Communications (Rcom) today launched its GSM services in Mumbai. Having launched its GSM services RCom, has become the first private CDMA follower in India to provide GSM services. The CDMA major had recently announced the launch of its GSM services across 11,000 towns in the country.

The telco operator has launched a tariff plan which offers its customers a one time subscription charge (including GSM SIM) of Rs 25.

Commenting on the launch in Mumbai, Dinesh Gulati, head of Western region, Reliance Communications, said: “The Reliance Mobile GSM entails offering a unique value proposition fine-tuned as per the needs of every segment of the 250 million GSM customers market in the country.
