A former employee of Dhirubhai Ambani Knowledge City (DAKC) was arrested on Thursday, eight days after the alleged killing of the company’s employee, Anandita Goswami-Mishra, said a high-ranking police official.
“The accused is Jacob Pinto, who was in love with the deceased and wanted to marry her. However, she had rejected his marriage proposal, which probably drove him to the extreme step,” Navi Mumbai Police Commissioner Ramrao Wagh said.
Wagh said Pinto, who used to work in the human resource department, in which Anandita worked as an assistant manager, has confessed to the murder, which had sent shockwaves in the Navi Mumbai industrial hub, on the outskirts of Mumbai.
On October 17, around 8 p.m., 33-year-old Anandita left work as usual and was proceeding from DAKC to Koparkhairane station, to catch a suburban train to Ghansoli suburb, where she lived.
She was attacked, a few metres away from the railway premises, the police said.
The police, quoting eyewitnesses, said she was stabbed four times in the back and abdomen. Profusely bleeding, she succumbed to the stab injuries soon thereafter. The police surmised that the incident occurred shortly after 8 p.m. since her wristwatch had stopped at 8.05 p.m.
Anandita, separated from her husband, lived in Ghansoli with her mother Poornima Goswami and a four-year old daughter Ahana, who needs constant medical attention.
